Happy ThanksLiving!

Shifting one’s focus from getting to giving, in this case defined as constantly and consistently adding value to other people’s lives, is not only a nice way to live life but a very profitable way as well. And, profit is more than just money though it was Zig Ziglar who said “Money may not be everything. But it sure ranks right up there with oxygen.” ☺

Profit can also be found in good health, great family and friends as well as a high quality of life. This is one of the fantastic takeaways from the great book “The Go-Giver” by Bob Burg and John David Mann.

While this is the time of year that most people traditionally focus on ThanksGiving, I would like to propose that we shift to an all year focus of ThanksLiving!

I’m Thankful for many things. In fact, too many to mention in this post. This would include being blessed with family and friends including each one of you.

I’m also grateful for good health. Over 15 years ago I was diagnosed with stage 3 malignant melanoma and given less than a 30% chance of living 5 years after being chosen to participate in a clinical trial. I’m still blessed to be here sharing this post at over 3x that lifespan diagnosis.

In the rest of this post, I will share with you two life philosophies that I believe lead to a daily life of ThanksLiving rather than just the annual ThanksGiving Focus.

1. Success Despite The Obstacles – This is my brand and driving philosophy of life.

Here are the basic principles to follow that will help you achieve Success Despite The Obstacles in your life:

Get Started:  It’s often true that the main reason why success isn’t reached is due to not putting any action behind the desire to achieve it.
Ignore Your Critics, Especially Your Friends:  People too weak to follow their own dreams will always find a way to discourage yours. Unfortunately, even if unintentional, friends and family often play this role.
• Keep Pressing On:  Don’t Give Up! Most people quit right before they reach their goal.
• Celebrate Each Success:  What’s the point in working hard to achieve a success if you don’t take the opportunity to relax and take a deep breath before charging on to your next success? I believe it’s important to not only enjoy the journey but the arrival at your destination.

Finally, It’s always best if the success you are working toward is one that makes “your world” win. It’s simply reality that life isn’t just about you.

2. Walking In Your Value Through Go-Giving

(Based on the book “The Go-Giver” by Bob Burg and John David Mann)

The principles found in this book will supercharge your efforts to achieve Success Despite The Obstacles. I highly recommend living a life of Go-Giving become a strong part of your core and foundation.

Here are the 5 Laws of being a Go-Giver.

• Law 1 – Law of Value – Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment
• Law 2 – Law of Compensation – Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them
• Law 3 – Law of Influence – Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interest first
• Law 4 – Law of Authenticity – The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself
• Law 5 – Law of Receptivity – The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving

The secret to success, to gaining it, to having it is to give, give, give. The secret to getting is giving. The secret to giving is to stay open to receiving.
